This photo was taken early last year and it is definitely one of my favorites. Its debatable what he was thinking in this photo, but my theory is that this New Jersey baby was getting ready to do his very first Jersey fist pump. He does after all have two older brothers who I was told happen to be big fans of Jersey Shore.

Never Forget: The American Pride Project

*Please be sure to read everything so you know how this works!*

In honor of the September 11th Ten Year Anniversary Cynthia Jill Photography be doing FREE mini-sessions for individuals, children, families, friends, pets, and service men & woman who want to show their American Pride on Facebook. The tragedies that occurred on 9/11 hit close to home, both literally and figurately, for those of us in this area. I think it's important to show the rest of the country, and the world for that matter, that those who lived through the terror attacks and survived, those who lost loved ones and our younger generation that we will never forget what happened that day and what American pride is all about.

How it works?

Mini-Sessions Dates: August 20th - September 10th.
*Not all dates will be available. Please contact me to set something up. Because of my other full-time job I can only book up to a week in advance, but will try my best to fit everyone in.

* There will be no Session Fee, however,in lieu of a session fee a donation to a 9/11 related charity of your choice is highly recommended.

Before Your Photoshoot

To book a free mini-session to show your American Pride you can do one of three things.

1. Email me at cjillphoto@gmail.com

2. Message me through my Facebook Photography Page

3. Comment on my Facebook Photography Page letting me know you are interested in booking a session for the "Never Forget: The American Pride Project"

* We will try to work on a first come, first serve basis

* Photos are intended to be posted as your Facebook photo thru the month of September. However, if you would also like to purchase your photo(s) for a small fee you can do that as well.

* If you have any ideas of what you would like to do for your session please let me know so we can discuss it before hand. I am up for pretty much anything!

* I am looking for any sort of Patriotic themed props. If you have anything you want to loan out or donate please let me know! Some prop ideas....
Flags of any varying sizes, pennant banners, blankets/throws, hair accessories, dog clothing/bow ties/hats, signs, backdrops...etc

* I will gladly welcome any location ideas anyone has as well!

* If you would like to donate your time or talent for ads, promotions, making props, or assisting on shoots please let me know!

Your Photography Session:

Where:
Locations will vary, but I would like to keep them in the Morris County area. We can try to work indoor shots at my home.

When:
Let me know when you are available and we will work out a date & time. I will also try to pick a specific date(s) of "mini shoot"sessions at one particular location. Details to come on that.

*This will not be a full session. Sessions will last between 15-30 minutes and will only be focused on the "Never Forget American Pride Project" theme. However, if you've already contacted me about booking a shoot prior to this or want to book a full shoot in addition we can do both. Because it is a "mini-session" and because of the subject matter, this session will only yield 1-3 digital images from your session.

After Your Session:

* I will post your photo on my Facebook photography page in the "Never Forget: The American Pride Project" album. You will be tagged in your photo(s) from my Facebook page and can use the photo and make it your new Facebook profile picture from there by clicking on the "Make Profile Picture on Page" button under your photo. Your photo(s) will be tagged with my logo and the "Never Forget Project" logo in the corners. You will not be sent the full resolution image until you purchase the downloadable photo for $10 (fee is for photographer's expenses on props, camera equipment, post processing time and travel fee). Police Officers, Firefighters, and Military Service Men and Women will receive their digital images FREE of charge.

Most importantly! Please pass this on so we can show Facebook and the World that we will never forget those who lost their lives on 9/11 and how proud we are to be Americans.

I got to spend the day photographing this incredibly sweet and cooperative little man. I swear, he hardly made a peep throughout the entire session. He was so content just sleeping. He was an absolute dream to work with!

Both mom and dad are firefighters so including something "firefighter" was a given ;)

As a twin myself, it was a fun experience getting to photograph these adorable 2 week old twin boys. Double the cuteness, double the fun and double the work ;) They were so sweet and cooperative though! It was so interesting getting to see how much alike, yet different they are from on another.

Rocky, their protective, yet incredibly sweet dog, wanted in on the action too!

Sunflowers & Summer Storm

There is this gorgeous field filled with sunflowers about a half hour away from me. So a couple of weeks ago I ventured out there to check them out and snap a few photos. It just so happened that right as we were getting ready to leave, this awesome summer storm descended upon us. While it was pretty to watch, it got rather scary as there were tornado warnings popping up everywhere!

I've known Lauren since we were about 4 or 5 years old and for as long as I can remember she has always loved horses.A love of animals is something we both have in common, among other things. I've always admired her for the love, respect and knowledge she has of horses. You can instantly tell how loved & cared for her animals are.

This is Ferdi, a Dutch Warmblood. A couple of weeks ago he got a pretty nasty hoof abscess. Luckily for him he's got an owner who's doing everything she can to nurse him back to health and hopefully he will make a full recovery!

{Pet Photography} Sneek Peak - Bella & Loopy

If this is not a lesson in how to adapt, accept circumstances thrown at you, and make the most out of what you're given then I don't know what is...

I recently did a a quick pet session for one of my co-workers today. The photo above is of her sweet dog, Loopy. Not too long ago Loopy had to have both eyes surgically removed to resolve a very serious condition. Its amazing how dogs can adapt so much quicker & better than humans. He's actually quite brilliant and manages really well just like this.

This week's photo challenge over at I Heart Faces is "Pets".

This topic is near & dear to me in a couple of ways. The first being that I have a huge love of animals. Not only do I love booking sessions with furry clients (and their owners) but when I am not working with my photography business, I work with animals... taking care of them while their owners are away. This challenge is also special to me because the picture I entered is not only a photo of my beloved Shelby,a boston terrier/jack russell mix, but also my foster nephew. He's only two years old (well, he will be on 2 on July 1st!), but he's experienced so much heartbreak, difficulties and changes in his short life. I whole heartedly believe that the connection he's formed with my dog has made all of the transitions and difficult circumstances he's been through just a bit easier for him. He absolutely loves Shelby and her adoration for him is returned equally. She is so incredibly good with him. Infact, its almost as if they have a deeper connection than I think any of us could ever understand. When he cries or is upset, Shelby will run to his side to lick his face or she'll run and grab one of her toys and try to engage him in a game of fetch. When he is at my sister's house or just out and about and for whatever reason gets upset, he cries for Shelby. When he is visiting and first walks in to my house, Shelby will usually run around the living room at a million miles an hour, which she seems to know he loves. Its as if her goal in life is to make him smile & laugh. I like to think that this little 20 pound dog has had a huge influence in making this little boy's days brighter. And I think that anyone who's ever seen them together would say the same thing. :)

I know I have posted this photo on my Blog at least once before, but this is the first and only photo that came to mind when I saw this weeks theme.

{Sneak Peek} The C Family

I had the pleasure of doing a shoot with this sweet family yesterday.

This precious girl was so entertaing and fun to shoot! After watching me take some photos of her little brother and doing her photos on the blue chair, she put her dolls on the chair and started to take photos of them with her toy camera. Too cute!!

And her little brother was an absolute angel and took everything we did in stride. He loves tummy time so these belly pics were a breeze :)

I had the pleasure of photographing these two gorgeous sisters the other day. Big sis is a Pageant Queen (Miss New Jersey Junior Pre-Teen) and needed some photos done for a program booklet. There's only one thing to do when I want to try out a new seamless paper color & a new prop...bribe Shelby to be in some pictures :)

(I found that old chair for $70 at a thrift store and fell in love with it the second I saw it! I think it will really work great for wedding & engagement shoots)

{Portraits} Locations Galore!

I got together with a friend/co-worker last week for a photoshoot. We've been talking about setting up a shoot for quite a while and I guess now was as good a time as ever. Trouble was, that at first, I had the hardest time coming up with a good location (or two) for this shoot. Then I remembered "my list". Whenever I see a location I think will work well for an up-coming or future photoshoot I always try to write it down so I have some ideas handy when I need them. So, a couple of these places I had jotted down on my list and the other, a beautiful arboretum, I had found on line. So we basically spent the day driving around NJ and having a total blast :)

Countdown to Spring: 3 days!

Some New Props...

Those that know me, know that I absolutely love to shop. And when it involves photography, I am even more in love with it! I had the day off today so I decided to stop by a few antique & thrift stores for some prop shopping and I came out with a couple of new items that I just can't wait to use. Including 2 old, awesome cameras to add to my camera collection. Photography is so much more than just snapping some pictures, it gives me an outlet to get creative. I love looking for props and I adore scouting locations!

Spring Fever!

I absolutely adore the changing of the seasons! By far my absolute most favorite season is Spring! Everything is just so fresh and vibrant *sigh* I can't wait!! Four more days and it will officially be Spring! Though, I'm afraid we'll still have to wait a few more weeks for it to feel and look more like spring... so until that time, I'd like to share some of my favorite Spring/early Summer photos that I've taken from the past couple of years.

This particular photo was taken at one of my fave places ever, Alstede Farms. They have the most amazingly beautiful selection of "Cut Your Own Flowers" there!

Can you tell I love pink?

This is another fave location. I first spotted this field about 3 springs ago. Then, as it turned out, the following spring I got a job right around the corner from it. The first chance I got I used this field for a shoot and plan to do many more shoots at this spot this coming Spring. Its breath-taking there!

This is another location I adore. Its right down the street from the location above. While I love doing urban shoots, there's just something about nature that totally speaks to me. Nothing like tall grass to add beauty to a photo.

Same location as above. Its so perfectly picturesque there! I am pretty sure that I could just pull up a comfy chair and sit there and stare at this place all spring-time long.

This is called a huymmingbird moth. Had never heard of one or saw one until then!

Not many people know this, but my favorite color as a child was Orange.

One of the many peacocks that freely wander around at the Turtle Back Zoo...

This photo was taken in the "Great Mall" area of Central Park. I did a shoot there this past fall and plan to do some shoots there this spring/summer as well. The canopy trees are to die for!

I don't know what it is, but I have always loved butterflies. They're just so magical.

This was taken at a local arboretum. Another fab locale for photo shoots!

Sorry its been such a long time without an update from me - I've been down & out with a nasty sinus infection and a painful kidney infection for the past 10 or so days.

I started to feel like I am finally on the road to recovery today so I decided to whip out the camera and take some more photos of Shelby (hey, there could never be enough and she's a pretty cute subject, right?). Let me just say though, that I cannot wait for things to go back to normal again!

What would I do without this girl to help occupy my time stuck inside and feed my photography itch?! I'll tell you, I really am so lucky to have a dog that doesn't really mind getting her photo taken and generally listens so well to commands. I ♥ her!

Something you might not know about my cute, rambunctious, cuddly and sometimes a teeny bit naughty pooch... we rescued her from a local animal shelter. Actually, every dog I've ever had was adopted from a shelter. Sure, none of them came from a frou-frou breeder or were/are actually even purebreds. But they were all unique and amazing in their own way. If you're looking into getting a dog (or cat) please consider checking out your local animal shelter first. There are so many lovely dogs, young and old, just waiting for their forever home.

Shelby helped me try out my new studio set-up. She really is such a great dog. Generally, she is very well behaved and listens well. Although, that hasn't always been the case. I've had to work with her a lot. She was kind of a terror when she was a puppy. If she doesn't like doing something, then we work around it. I never make her sit for a photo. There are times when she's not too thrilled with me in the very beginning, but once we get going she actually gets into it and really enjoys it. I also use lots of positive reinforcement and treats so that helps too!

This was a spur of the moment shoot where the lighting I had available to me was very limited. It was sort of a challenge, although I do love a good challenge! I'm much more of a natural light girl. However, in this case, I am pretty happy with the way these turned out.

The most frequently asked question that I've received lately is, "what should I wear to my photo session with you?" So,in response, I thought I would put together some outfits on random Wednesdays for you all to get some ideas. And thus, I am introducing "What to Wear Wednesday"! This by no means implies that you should go out to these stores and buy these outfits for your shoot. This is merely meant to give you some ideas of different clothing and styles that tend to work well for Photoshoots.

In the meantime... I recently did a session with a friend from high school the other day at a location that I've been dying to use for quite sometime now. Oh yeah, and how gorgeous is she?!
